Fundraising - 2013
FEBRUARY DAD GROWS HIS HAIR FOR A WHOLE YEAR

To celebrate his 40th birthday and his step-daughter Faye’s remission, Dave Jefferies pledged that he would grow his hair and beard for one whole year.

Normally clean shaven on head and face, this has been quite an achievement for Dave to say the least.

MARCH Live Music Gig in Portishead, Bristol

On Saturday 16 March, Portishead premiered a very succesful music gig, raising a brilliant £915 for NCSF.

Held in the Workman's in Portishead who kindly donated their facilities free of charge, three different local acts took to the floor, entertaining over 150 guests ranging from ages 10 through to 80!

To kick off the evening Grace Martinson and Abbie Taylor (also on her acoustic guitar), both only 16 years of age, sang a variety of numbers, some written by themselves, ending with a perfect rendition of "I dreamed a dream".

This was followed by 'Taking Chances', a three piece pop punk band, all of whom are currently students at Gordano School. Finally, 'Fake Republic' got everyone singing and dancing to their covers spanning five decades!

Huge thanks must go to all these artists who performed free of charge; and massive thanks to Charlotte and Ian Joyner for organising the whole event.

Thank you too to all who donated raffle prizes. A fun night was had by all.

MARCH Dinneywick Inn Bake Off - Friday 15th March 2012

JULY The Rat Race Crossing - Ed Lindley

Ed Lindley participated in," The Crossing". This was a VERY challenging 3 day off-road mountain bike event cycling from West to East coast via 3 National Parks, passing through the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors.

Despite a grueling 3 days in very hot weather, Ed triumphed and completed The Crossing - many dropped out but Ed persevered and what is more raised £725 plus Gift Aid for NCSF.

Well done Ed... Many thanks for helping NCSF

SEPTEMBER
Julie takes on 'Tough Mudder South West'

On the weekend of Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd September the 'Tough Mudder South West' event was held on the scenic Glanusk Estate in the beautiful Brecon Beacons and a number of people took part to raise funds specifically for NCSF - including Fran Trueman, Lucy Walwin, Freya Hellin, Richard Green, Julie Barratt and yours truly!

A Tough Mudder event is also known as 'probably the toughest event on the planet' and so it's no walk in the park! With almost four hours of non-stop action, covering 12 miles of thick mud, the steepest of hills and umpteen obstacles involving water, ice, electric shocks, tunnels and heights, it is certainly an experience not to be forgotten in a hurry!

The team work is amazing; a real sense of camaraderie and lots of laughter involved amongst all the sweat and tears! Personally I loved the whole experience - it was certainly a challenge and there were highs and lows - the lowest point for me having to go completely under in a pit of ice; I didn't quite anticipate what a shock to the system that would be! For others the lower points were the electric shocks or the tunnels, or jumping from height.

However we were all unanimous in the highest point - the sense of achievement and elation at the finish line and earning our orange headband (and pint of strongbow!).

Thanks to all who have supported us in this event - we've already spread the bug for next year so if anyone is interested in doing if for NCSF please do let us know!

NCSF relies on fundraising events such as those listed above without which we would have been able to help many families that could not find help elsewhere.

NHS, Macmillan, Maggie's Cancer Care have all referred families to us and we have been able to help them in a very difficult time of their lives.

So if you can help with any of the above events or suggest a new one please use the contact page to let us know or click the Donation button on the right.
