About The Foundation

We have made an extremely difficult decision to close NCSF as a Registered Charity at the end of this financial year, 31 May 2023..

As you can imagine, this has not been a decision taken lightly after such a successful number of years and with the valued support we have received from you and others over many years. As a small charity, the Covid pandemic has significantly impacted our resources and as a small (and ageing!) group of voluntary trustees, who also have other challenging commitments in our lives, we have acknowledged that continuing the charity in this way is not sustainable. NCSF has now been in existence for 17 years and we are very proud of all that has been achieved in that time, and we know Nicola would be incredibly proud too. We would like to say a huge thank you to supporters such as yourself who have contributed to the charity’s success.

However, we are delighted to be able to share that we have found a way forward to continue Nicola’s legacy by working with Penny Brohn UK, a Bristol based charity that helps people live well with cancer.

A restricted fund, the ‘Nicola Corry Support Fund’ will be created under the umbrella of Penny Brohn UK. This restricted fund means that the use of any monies raised in Nicola’s name will be restricted to supporting families where one parent has cancer. For example, this could be to contribute towards childcare and/or transport costs so that parents living with cancer can attend Wellbeing Days or other activities at the Penny Brohn UK National Centre in Bristol. The money cannot currently be used to pay for ongoing childcare as we do now, as Penny Brohn UK are not a grant giving body, however, we are confident that families will benefit from this alternative form of support to help parents/families live well with cancer.

We are so grateful for this opportunity and to Penny Brohn UK for agreeing to partner with us in this way. Having had various conversations with the senior team at Penny Brohn over the past year or so, it is apparent that our values align, and they really understand how important it is to us that the charity can continue supporting families in some form. Nicola used the services of Penny Brohn UK herself, as did we following her death, and we are certain that she would also support our decision to move on NCSF in this way.

Of course, this does mean that as we are no longer a Registered Charity, we are unable to accept donations into our bank account as it will close. Instead, we would be delighted if you would be willing to continue your support to families living with cancer by donating your monthly amount to the Bursary Fund Details as follows:

If you would like to continue your support through a monthly donation into the Nicola Corry Support Fund, simply visit https://www.pennybrohn.org.uk/nicola-corry-support-fund/ Here you can choose to give a one-off donation or set up a regular Direct Debit. By choosing to support us in this way, your donation will specifically be used to support parents living with cancer, to use the services of Penny Brohn either through the provision of childcare and/or transport costs.

Alternatively, you may choose to join the Penny Brohn UK lottery. By joining, you’ll not only be in with a chance of winning up to £25,000 but you’ll also help Penny Brohn UK be there for those living with cancer across the whole of the UK.  You can find out more about the lottery and sign up by visiting pennybrohn.org.uk/lottery

Before signing up, please remember to cancel your existing Standing Order/Direct Debit with us before 31 May 2023. Penny Brohn UK will not be able to do this on your behalf.

To celebrate the closing of one door and the opening of another we are holding a fundraiser Garden Party/Afternoon Tea on Sunday 30 July at the Penny Brohn UK National Centre in Ham Green, in aid of Penny Brohn and Nicola Corry Support Fund. Please do save the date and we will be in touch with more details nearer the time.

Finally, please may we say a huge thank you on behalf of all trustees, past and present, for supporting the Nicola Corry Support Foundation.  We hope you are understanding of our need to change, and sincerely hope that you continue to support the Nicola Corry Support Fund at Penny Brohn.

Yours sincerely

Mary Pearce, John Corry and Claire Bullock

"Whenever evil befalls us, we ought to ask ourselves, after the first suffering, how we can turn it into good.
So shall we take occasion, from one bitter root, to raise perhaps many flowers."
